Dear Parents/Guardians,

If your child has not received their laptop or if they are having difficulty with their laptop you can submit their name to either myself mgruber@buffaloschools.org or Mrs. Dulak, CDulak@buffaloschools.org. As soon as we get the email from you – the student’s name is submitted to the district. The district will send a letter to you detailing the time and place to pick up the laptop.

A copy of the district’s grading policy is on the district website. This is the policy that will be followed until the end of the year. Students need to complete the work assigned to them. However, this is a difficult situation and I ask that students, teachers and parents just do the best they can. Sometimes less is more and quality is better than quantity. I am asking all members of the Olmsted family to be easy on yourselves and only do what you can do.

As a school we still have a number of students with whom we have not had any contact. Contact can be by phone, text, e-mail. We want to make sure we have communication with all of our students.

If you have had a change of address, e-mail, or telephone – please e-mail your new information to me and I will get it updated. It takes about 24 hours for a turnaround in the system. If you have moved out of the district, please let us know.

I know all of us have knowledge of someone affected by the COVID-19. At Olmsted we have had the parent of a student, the parent of a teacher, and grandparents  of students pass away. Many family members of both students, staff and former staff have been ill or are currently ill with the virus. Please keep all of them in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
 
The District is currently in the process of finalizing grading procedures to provide the best outcome for our students. Please be advised that new grades may not appear in Parent Portal temporarily, though teachers will continue to collect assignments and provide feedback.

Students in Advanced Placement classes will receive emails from the College Board regarding information and access to their online AP exams.  This correspondence comes to students through the email address in their College Board account.  As their exam approaches, each individual student will receive a unique electronic ticket that will allow them access to their exam(s).  This ticket will come through their email and also will be available in their College Board account.

Finally, all Buffalo Public Schools are closed until May 15th.

The 2019-2020 basketball season was full of excitement for two of Olmsted’s Senior players, Marciano Lamar and Gabby McDuffie both reached career milestones during their last season playing for the Olmsted Owls. Marciano Lamar has been a major role player on the court for the Owls over his three-year career on Varsity. Lamar reached a major milestone during the team’s Senior Night on February 4th when he scored his 1000-point. Lamar is only the second player in Olmsted Boys Varsity Basketball history to reach this landmark. Lamar’s remarkable year lead his team to the Section VI B-2 Semifinals at Buffalo State and was named Yale Cup II player of the year.

During the same season, Senior Gabby McDuffie solidified a spot in the record books for her career-high 1,748 points which sets the Olmsted record. McDuffie’s 5 years of hard work as a Varsity Owl led her to reach many accomplishments, in January 2019 as a Junior she was able to score her 1000-point becoming the second player in Olmsted girls’ basketball history to break that mark the same year she led the Lady Owls to the Section VI B-2 finals a Buffalo State, a first in school history. McDuffie has finished out her high school basketball career with many other accolades, she was named Canisius Cup II player of the year in 2018, 2019 and was awarded co-player of the year in 2020. She also led the league in points this year with a total of 558 points and led the 41 points during the Owls’ last game in the Section VI B-2 Semifinals.

The Olmsted Boys Varsity Basketball Team had a spectacular 2019-2020 year, ending their season with a 15-7 record thanks to outstanding play and leadership of 1000 point scorer, Lamar, who was named player of the year for the Yale Cup II as well as an All Western NY honorable mention. Also recognized on Second Team Yale Cup II was Renard Siders and Lawrence Jackson who was awarded Honorable Mention. These standouts will be missed next year along with their senior teammates, Malcom Rice, Jermaine Williams, and Tommie Kilminster.

Attached is a letter regarding the cancellation of Regents Examinations and the options available to students as well as a Resource Sheet for students. Copies will be placed on our school website and a copy e-mailed to all students via Schoology.

BREAKFAST & LUNCH MEALS FOR CHILDREN ARE AVAILABLE ON MONDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY Resuming April 15

Monday – 2 lunches and 2 breakfast to be consumed at home on Monday and Tuesday

Wednesday – 2 lunches and 2 breakfast to be consumed at home on Wednesday and Thursday

Friday – 1 lunch and 1 breakfast to be consumed at home on Friday (Breakfast packages are for the next morning)

Alternate menu choices will be available for students with allergies and special dietary needs.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Many members of the Olmsted School Community are working on the front lines as healthcare workers in efforts to combat the coronavirus. Realizing how difficult this is for these individuals and their loved ones, the Olmsted school family is working with WNY Feeds the Front Lines to bring food to heathcare workers. A flyer with detailed information on how you can help is attached. This information will be on our school website and will be sent to students via Schoology. Thank you to teachers Caitlin Henrikson, Claire Licata-Michael and Kaitlin States for organizing this effort.
